UNION
presidential candidate on the ticket of the coalition of four opposition
parties (Ukawa), Mr Edward Lowassa, has promised to improve education sector if
the opposition wins this year’s general election slated for October 25, this
year.
Addressing
a campaign rally at Kaliua town in Tabora Region, Mr Lowassa insisted that
under his leadership, the education system will be overhauled to enable the
country get local experts who shall be used in various development projects.
“As
I have always insisted, education is our number one priority that shall get us
personnel who will be engaged in productive activities.
This
is the best approach for our society to attain positive changes,” said Mr
Lowassa. The campaign meeting was also addressed by Chadema national Chairman,
Mr Freeman Mbowe, who advised more people to join opposition which he charged
that it was aimed at bringing changes in the country.
“We
must work hard for prosperity of our country and education must be free from primary
to university level and this is possible through proper utilisation of the
available resources," Mr Lowassa insisted.
Clarifying
on the significance of education, he said that the effective management of
other sectors of development such as railway network, health, water,
manufacturing, air transportation, among others, would be achieved through
application of skills.
Mr
Lowassa also promised to assist tobacco farmers to get good price from their
produce, because they have been underpaid for a long time.
“We
promise to make a follow up, to make sure that all arrears related to the
tobacco debts in the past are duly paid. That is your right and you deserve
it,” he reiterated.
